While Hidden Noise concentrated on walks through the urban landscape, Above us focuses on the rooftops of the city, which are private zones that lie within our visual axes. They are the point at which the signals from today’s communication technologies are networked. Roofs with mobile radio transmitter systems are a virtually commonplace sight. Their effects upon the health of living beings are open to speculation, but their numbers are increasing in step with those of the frequencies that we require.
Far removed from everyday possibilities, this work illuminates the activities of these components of communication. Their surroundings are documented as a “billboard” that is only visible to the camera lens.
The tools used in this project are based on the work of the artist Christina Kubisch and where produced whit her collaboration.
